Hoping this falls into the WHATEVER category per forum description :)
I do not have a degree in mechanical engineering but I have always had a fair amount of mechanical aptitude. Understanding how mechanical things work has always been easy for me (unlike electronics where there are no visible moving parts, only magic smoke)

Wifey complains I have the annoying habit of pointing out inconsistencies in movies and tv shows.
Example:
Car chase scene-guy shifts from top gear (5th) down to 4th and the revs drop and car goes faster
Car thief hot wires a new car by pulling 2 wires from under the dash, sparking them together a few times then roars off........having not disabled the steering wheel lock
Bad guy works the slide on his semi-auto pistol then to show he is serious he works it again........in real life that would have ejected the unspent round.

Just a few silly examples. Wifey says "youre not supposed to notice those things" LOL
Does anyone else suffer from movie mechanics spoiler syndrome?

My wife and I call it the "******** Moment". It's when something so preposterous happens in the fictional world that the movie lives in that one of us says "Ok, that's just too much!"

...Ved.

Same with the lack of period correct machines.
Like how they drive around in 30s cars in a movie that's in the early 20s.
Or all those western movies where they have Winchester 94s while it is supposed to be a few decades earlier...
Same with civil war movies where they are using centerfired cartridge guns.

Ww2 movies with vehicle's from the 50-60s.

Also isn't it interested that a movie set in say 1958 that pretty much everyone is driving brand new cars?

And isn't funny how explosive cars are in movies?
I'm glad that my car doesn't explode after a fender-bender!

Squealing tires.....on a gravel road.

I get annoyed when WW2 documentary videos, sometimes on TV, show completely incorrect machines being used. It often varies with the individual documentary and if it becomes to flagellant I turn it off.
Identifying German "pocket battleships" as belonging to other countries and showing B29 bombers taking off from "north Africa" to attack German forces in Italy in 1943 are some examples.

Yes, there are lots of errors made in all areas of movie making, videos and TV shows. Got to take it all as imaginary but it does detract from the story when the producers, writers, editors lack basic knowledge of what they are presenting.

Or like when they take these stages photos of someone "working" at a factory, and they have a wrench, turning a wire or a piece of tubing.
They give the person a prop, and say "pretend like you are actually working, nobody will notice that you can't turn a wire with a wrench".

.

The loom in 2008 wanted action movie was something that did trouble my mind.
How can a regular loom miss weaving?
Doesn't know a lot about textile manufacturing but it seems impossible.
Silly movie anyway.
