Hullo members, has anyone made their Demon V8 valve cages out of Brass instead of drill rod?

Brass won't be worth the time it takes to make them.
Bronze on the other hand is recommended.

I always make my valve cages from brass. I have never had an issue with that.---Brian

Possibly but these also carry the valve guide in which plain brass is way too soft.
Perhaps in Canada, bronze is known as brass.

No, actually we Canadians do happen to know bronze from brass. The advantage of using brass for valve cages is that the brass will deform slightly under pressure from a steel valve during the combustion cycle, and this very slight deforming increases the ability to give a 100% airtight seal between the valve and the valve seat. There is nothing wrong with using bronze, except that being a "harder" metal the bronze will take a longer time to give the same sealing effect. I have built over 20 i.c. engines, all with brass valve cages, and they all perform quite well.

Good...there still remains the wear ability of brass compared with the bronze on the valve stem.
FYI I have also built many engines over the last 50 odd years.
