It doesn't happen very often so, when it does, it's worth memorializing the event.

I needed to grind a tiny smidgen off a small, hardened part. Perfect job for a toolpost grinder but, lacking one, a Dremel will have to do.

I still haven't got around to building the complex Dremel holder I'm forever (over)designing in my mind so it's time for a bit of Rube Goldberg (Heath Robinson) engineering.

Would you believe that the handpiece for the Dremel model 232-5 flexible shaft model slides nicely into the boring bar holder sold by CDCO and there's enough slot in the sleeve to tighten the thing down and hold the handpiece tightly.

Got my job done in a twinkling.

If your handpiece is too small for this, it's a simple job to make a split sleeve adapter.

One of our club members has made an avocation of adapting these boring bar holders to a variety of tasks. Fitted with sintered bronze bearing sleeves, a rotating shaft carries a small boring head and makes a nifty over-the-top ball turning tool. Another he's fitted up with a sliding arm to make an "Armstrong" slotter.

Well done Marv! BRAVO!!

Now THAT, is indeed some sharp thinking in action.

Excellent! Thanks for sharing that little tid bit. I am sure the knowledge will come in handy.

Swwwweeeeeettttt!!!. Care to share the boring head configuration?

Nice one, Marv!

I've always felt that the most elegant "redneck engineering" solutions leave the parts intact for their original purpose. This fits the bill perfectly!

FWIW, the older, smaller Dremel handpieces (discontinued 8+ years ago, but worth grabbing if found) can be mounted as boring-bars in QCTP holders (at least the BXA-size, probably AXA as well), as poorly illustrated below:
