I started my 4 Cylinder Air cooled engine today. I have made a few changes as I go from the original plans which are great, and can be purchsed from Dale Detrich at http://www.daledetrich.com/4_cylinder.htm I attached my drawing of the engine as well as a couple of work in Progress. This is the Block and end plates (Not Finished)

TodayI spent most of the day making an adaptor plate for the rotary table, to hold asmall 3 jaw chuck To drill and tap the holes in the Block and end plates. Couldn’tuse an index head due to the odd hole pattern, which was alternating 50°, 40°,50° because of the flats that are going to be at 90° to each other.

Cut O-Ring grooves in the endplates.
Drilledholes in end plate with counter bore.

Drilled and taped End of block.

Today I took a brass bar 1/2 x 3/4 x 13" and went down to my friends sheet metal shop, and rolled it into a ring. Looks prety rough, next Imade a 4" diameter plug and pounded the ring on to it. Beat the hell out of it to get it round, sanded butt ends clean took off plug, and with a large C-clamp closed the gap and silver soldered the butt.Went to the lathe and turned the bore and the front face, and had to quit for the day.:D

Thanks to All

I have made some changes, mainly in the sealing of oil leaks. I will be giving Dale a full set of drawings to do with as he pleases. I will post changes as I Get to them. Main changes I have done so far, is make the bore in the block a bit smaller to put O-Rings in the end plates. Also changed the crank bearing to 3/8 Diameter to add crankshaft seals. Any interested after buying Dale's Plans can contact me at [email protected]I will be glad to help. I am now 65 years old been machining from the age of 9.
