What I need is I have the 3/8 one and need to know what size to make the slot, and what do I need to make it. I have a mill but it is 1/2 , Iam new at all this. It took me a 4 weeks to figure out how to run it, go thing for youtub, What Iam doing is making a milling plate out of 6061. It is 24in, long 9in wide 1 1/2thick, got it cheap thanks Brett

Hi Brett;

If you mean you want to put T-slots in that aluminum plate, then you use a T-slot cutter.
You use a regular end mill to cut the narrow part of the slot all the way to where the bottom will be, then set the depth for the T-slot cutter, and cut the "T's".
You can buy the cutter at most machining supply stores.

When you're cutting the slot with an endmill, going a little deeper than the slot cutter will be will;
1. give the t-slots some chip clearance, so every little crumb that falls in the slots doesn't stop you from sliding a nut through.

2. make the job easier for the keycutter you're following it with, by reducing rubbing of the cutter face and providing chip clearance during the cut.

Thanks i will have to get one of those cutters and the info on cutting Brett
