Has anyone had any experience with a blown MOSFET on there sieg S lathe.
There was a loose nut on mine which has contacted the MOSFET and blown it. Made a really loud noise which was front of Fet blowing off and hitting plastic cover. I have contacted seller but bit worried as I have taken it apart and put it back together and afraid it might void warranty. I also don't want to buy one as the are pretty expensive. Also replacing blown MOSFET ($2:00) is a bit risky the way they make PCB these days
Thought?..

You know the mosfet is blown you know why it went belly up I would just solder on a new MOSFET and move on. Why do you say it is risky?
But I am an electronics tech so minor board repairs do not bother me. .

read the identification numbers on the other mosfets and order a new one. their will be two types of mosfets on the board, a p type, and n type. since the front of the fried one blew off, you will need to do detective work to figure out which type it is. if you have 3 p types, and two n types, then you know it was the third n type that blew, and vice versa. brushless motors have three phases, and ave one p, and one n transistor for each phase. the fets could be paralleled up as well.

you could always find an old treadmill or something to get a motor and drive off of.

Tin Falcon; I have some experiance with building and repairing electronics and i really dont like removing components from any modern PCB and run away from the budget stuff. Traces lift and break and the the action of sucking out the solder seems to knock out the plating in the hole. I am not saying I cant do it but this is a manufacturing defect. Why do I have to go thru the grief. For the price this is a good bit of machinery, but some locktite on the two nuts would be good idea.
