She's a cutie in a homely kinda way 1951 SouthBend 9 x 4 1/2 Model A....and some stuff If you saw my "I did a bad thing" thread, this is the lathe

Frosting is still showing on the ways, the rust colored stuff is actually overspray primer...I came out of a automotive shop where I think it wasn't used much. Oversized dials and collet set, though I didn't see the adapter.....that's easy to come by.

I'll have fun overhauling and painting her.....she'll be pretty and functional and will be for small work......like engines ;D

I'm going to have fun in a forest of lathes!

Looks like a great pickup Dave Thm: She also appears to have a detent locking tumbler reverse. The older one that needs a spanner is a real PITA

Good one Dave

Thanks Guys!

She'll need some work, but I think this one has good bones. I think she's in good enough shape in all the right area's to make it a worth while project to overhaul with new felts, cross slide nuts, paint and stand.

The stand is a bit rough and ready, but it came with it. I need to raise the lathe by about 8 to 10 inches to bring the spindle centerline to my elbow while standing. I think there may be enough there to build up into a proper bench....I'll need to ponder that a bit.

Best of all, I think I got my Son interested in learning how to use it...its small enough not to intimidate him like my Logan does. We'll see

I like it Dave....a little clean-up, restoration, and a new paint job and that homeliness will turn into classic beauty. She sure has the lines and bone structure for it. I do hope you will document the entire process.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for your interest and comments. I'll document it. But be patient. There are a few items on the agenda first.
