Even Worse When It's Not Your Fault

I was playing in the shop this afternoon, not really making anything.
I was just practicing some threading. Number 2 came to point on the thread dial
and I snapped the half nut in to take another cut at a depth of .060"
Less that half way through that cut the power went out.

There is an insert that will be retired. I don't know yet if the tool is damaged.
At least it was just a practice piece.

Don't feel bad Rick. I wiped out 7 cutters yesterday, and 6 of them were various carbide cutters! :

And all on one work piece. I was machining a chuck back plate from the worst imaginable quality of cast iron.

Some inserts you can flip them over as well so you have 6 for the price of 1

It was chipped the whole way back to the center hole.
I'd be a little concerned about it's stability.
I don't think it would draw up tight enough to suit me.

I'm not throwing it away!
While those inserts are only about $3 each, I never seem to
order more until I need them NOW. :
There is one good tip on in yet. The blackened tip it burnt up.
If I had to, it would be pulled out of the retirement box to
finish a part. As long as I have better inserts, I'll use them first.
