I went to the "National Manufacturing Exhibition" in Melbourne this morning, it's held here every 2 years. It was quite obvious that 3D printers are all the rage, quite a large area was set up by various suppliers displaying their models, always a large crowd around getting information.

I was disappointed when I went to the 2014 show in Sydney, it may as well have been a 3D printer expo,as their was not one CNC machining centre, lathe running in the place just 1 laser cutter. I don't know if its was a financial thing for companies or just a sign of the future for manufacturing.

I was a bit disappointed with this show as well, not as much machinery as in the past. They did have several CNC mills and lathes running, one of the mills was absolutely huge. I wanted to see if there were any small CNC mills there that were suitable for home use, Hare and Forbes are now selling the Optimum range of mills and lathes, but not the small CNC ones. I did speak briefly to a factory rep from the Chinese manufactures of these mills and was given a catalogue with the smaller mills in it, one was perfect for home. I asked H & F if they would import one for me, they were not interested.
