Got a question about my little 7x10 lathe. The top slide (not sure that's what it's called) is a little loose and wiggles. If you feed to the left cutting and don't back it away from the work it will take a little more off as you return. How can I get rid of that wiggle? Don't think it is supposed to be there.

HI their are screws to a just the top slide to stop this strip the top slide dawn give it a good clean and re oil then a just the screws to stop the side to side movement

nsfr1206,

When you strip your top slide down, be sure to check the quality of the screws krv3000 mentions. On mine they were of poor quality. A trip to the hardware store was called for to get better quality ones. (Luckily, I have local sources for metric fasteners.)

Another thing worth doing is to lap ("sand smooth") your gib. It might be helpful to read this link:

at the very leaste the mini mill and lathe should be dissembled cleaned deburred and lubricated early in its life. this wiil improve performance and extend life . littlemachineshop.com has hardware upgraded kits. to remedy poor quality hardware. also making gibs can improve the machine.
