The lathe stopped turning even the motor ran fine. I tried to tension the belt. Same problem. Removed the belt could not turn the spindle without great force. Lowered the banjo to release gears. Only the large plastic drive pulley and the small gear were left. Same problem. I think somehow the drive pulley and small gear may be meshed too tight. I see no adjustment . Contacted Grizzly , thought someone here may know what the problem is.

The two locknuts with notches are used to adjust the bearing preload. Taking them off will also allow the pulley and gear behind it to be removed.

Have you noticed the area around the bearings getting hot before it went tight?

No I did not notice anything wrong til the lathe stopped turning while I was boring a 1/2" hole.
I will loosen the locknuts to see if the preload is too tight. If that does not help then I will remove the pulley to start with. The lathe was working perfectly with no indication of a problem.
I forgot to mention I heard a noise then shut down immediately. I am wondering if new bearings are in order. Hope not .
