Newb Questions: Shaper

So, from what I understand so far about shapers, successful work on one depends largely on your tools. To make my trip to Babylon (Johannesburg) worthwhile I will try to get most of what I need with one excursion. What sort of grinding wheel for a bench grinder to make HSS lathe and shaper tools should I be looking for? Also what size toolstock fits the Atlas 7” ? I doubt I will find imperial sizes, I will have to go for metric HSS.

Lovely things shapers, with a few bits, pieces & a bit of piano wire you can even cut gears to the correct tooth form.
