Hello there,
Im new here and am in the progress of setting up a very small but capable home machine shop,
Got a lathe and a drillpress and a small homebuilt cnc routertable capable of machining aluminium ,
And was interested to see if there are some plans to make a small engine with those tools.
Im also looking to figure out the software for my small rotary table which i want to drive with a arduino and a stepper and seeing i dont want to invent the wheel i thought ill go on here and ask what other people would suggest seeing that aint a new concept,
The rotary table is to mount on the lathe spindle and be capable of clocking the spindel and has a 1:90 gearing. But that is already sorted.

I am not sure if this qualifies for a "small engine", but this is one of my dad's designs that I created 2D drawings for.

Welcome tengineso the group. There are lots of model engines plans and kits available . Are you looking at steamers or ic engines? If you really want to test your skills hogs on has a very complete set of plans for up to 18 cyl radial engines. Many of these have been built so it’s a well proven design he is a great guy to talk to actually the radials are pretty straight forward. Just one heck of a lot of parts my plan set has to weigh 6-7 pounds he even offers a simple rear cover casting .

At first ill look at steamers.
Cause they are a bit more simple and i am still just a starter in this stuff , only got a lathe since 2 months a cq6133. And never turned any metal except twistdrills and nuts and bolts and screws before that.
and im all selftought through utube.
But im getting the hang of it though plenty still to learn .

These are metric plans of a very small steam engine (7mm bore x 10mm stroke).
Small but complex depending on the model choice, single or many cylinders and 2 directions of rotation.
You can adapt the size of plan to your machines and with available materials by applying a coefficient to all dimensions.

Are you going to drive the spindle with the rotary or mount the rotary on the spindle or lathe chuck?

Thanks for the plans a bit to complex jet but will keep for when im a bid more advanced.

Are you going to drive the spindle with the rotary or mount the rotary on the spindle or lathe chuck?

Gonna drive the spindle with it thats the easyest option , seeing the center of the rotary aint in the center of the rear housing .
Second my lathe aint got a spindle lock yet.
So i would have to chuck it up in the 4jaw and create a spinle lock if i was to mount it in the chuck.
