I'll be traveling from central Canada to Newfoundland and back in September and October (by motorhome) and would like to augment my stocks of metal if the opportunity should present itself. If any of the Canadians who hang out here have recommendations as to places I could look into, I would appreciate hearing about them. I will be passing a few locations of Metal Supermarket, but I am interested in other places. If your favorites are so good you're keeping them a secret - I'll understand. :)

Hi Ken,
There are a number of Metal Supermarkets in the Toronto area, but nothing special. There used to be a number of metal recyclers around, but they no longer want to deal with the general public.
Regards,
Gerald.

Thanks for that - I will be passing through Vaughn and Barrie at the end of the trip and I'll check their stock when I am there, but as with the Winnipeg store - I'm not expecting vast quantities of brass to be available.

There is a metal recycler in Barrie, I don't know if they deal with the public, I have just seen them from the bus on the way to Casino Rama. The only other places I have picked up metal is at Princes Auto and Active Surplus.
Regards,
Gerald.

The Lee Valley retail store in Ottawa sells assorted diameters of mild steel (12L14) and brass. Occasionally, stainless & aluminum is offered. Rarely, there is small hex steel (~1/2 inch). Cutoffs of their manufacturing arm (Veritas), I assume.

Dunno if any of the other stores share the bounty.

Supply is sporadic: sometimes lots, other times cupboard is bare.

Thanks Dunc1 and Steamboatmodel. I'll check out Active Surplus and Lee Valley's Ottawa Store.
