Ah HA! I read through the taper attachment operation section and it states that the "screw "S" needs to be removed to put the TA into operation" That means the TA does NOT have a telescopic leadscrew so it's very important to NOT TURN THE LATHE ON while we dope all this out.

This would cause catastrophic failure of something.

This may also explain why everything is locked up.....I would download the book and give it a look, but it looks like you need to remove the bolt that locks the leadscrew nut to the cross slide carriage FIRST.....I was concerned that was the case...everyone designs them a bit different..... ::)

I had also forgotten about that website till a friend reminded me about it a while ago!
It is a great place for all manuals and info!!

morning all the number is B 6812 and in a little squre box anw214 .the screw is telicopic i've had it apart twice.In last night picture the big nut can be removed but ithas a stud thah's i under the nut . Hope this helps

I am back ,I went and removed the big nut it goes to the lead screw nut..I will try to take it all apart again this afternoon and I will take picture of it all apart.Then maybe we can figure out how it works .Thanks to all ! Dale

Absolutely telescopic...I shouldn't look at posts at midnight ::)

In the second photo of your first post, you can see the housing that anchors that end of the cross slide screw.

Very "typical"

So now....what's wrong with it? Our intrepid hero will get back to us shortly.... ;D

Well shall I plea the 5th .Took it all apart again and guess what a big bur on the part that you last posted on .So I thank you all you, at leastyou've light a fire to get to the buttem of this .Works fine when moving it by hand ,shall finish putting it back together and am sure it will work fine .You guys are all great,thank very much some points for you all.Dale
