Hi,

2.375" x 4, 2 start, .0625 wide x .093 deep, square thread, in aluminum.

It's actually a prototype cooling jacket for work....The old Logan made short work of it.

OIL! :big:

No nut, like I said...coolant jacket.

Dave

Silly Question but why 2 start ???

Speed ???

Nice job

Best Regards
Bob

one thread is potted, the other is for coolant

Dave

Thats pretty cool!

I have a silly question also. What is a potted thread? Why not run coolant through both threads?

Kel

Potting means filled with a structural adhesive to locate it in a bore....I'd have to go into too much detail to really explain it, which I can't,........work related.

It was just and interesting job. My first square thread , which for all the drama I've heard about, wasn't any big thing really. Just slow....about .005 on diameter per pass.

Dave,
I've seen a similar coolant application on the copper annodes of large industrial triodes (damn big radio valve - 120kVA) but huge leads with dozens of starts which were milled rather than turned - rather like the reverse of rifleing in a gun barrel.
This then a close fit into a jacket - water is forced to spiral around the annode to keep it cool.

Cool job (pun)

Ken
