Hello everyone, I'm happy to be here. I'm new to the hobby brand new to working with and machining parts myself so any advice for a complete non engineer nube would be appreciated. I won't bother anyone I'll mostly be reading and trying to gain knowledge so that when I do feel I'm ready to advance and begin communicating, I'll not be asking annoying elementary questions, and I'll do as much research on my own to attempt to gain answers myself. I'm sure most of you are lightyears beyond me, but after starting with rehab of a couple of vintage wilesco steam engines and accessories of, I've been bitten by this bug and now have no choice but to try as an old dog to learn new tricks. Any questions or concerns anyone may have feel free to voice them. As I said I'm here with respect and a desire to learn and not to be a hack or a smart a?? Know it all.

Personally, I prefer Know-it-alls, so that I can feel humble in their presence.

I have to say that reading is most important, however, if you don't practice what you read, it is almost worthless. And easily forgotten. You must practice what you read. So that brings us to what equipment do you have? And of course where do you live? I might need to come over and borrow your equipment some time.

Also, some times I actually LIKE annoying questions, especially when they come from Greentwin, anyone named Ken or LLoyd or Dave or, in fact, anyone on this site.

Best way forward is start doing things. After a whole career talking about machining it was really an eye opener to actually do machining myself. It took me some time to reduce my ratio 'work done - to work done successfully' from about 3 to about 1,2 right now. Don't be afraid of falling down a steep learning curve!
