Drill sharpener ??

Just wondering if anyone knows what this is and how it goes together. Found it after a bit of a cleanup of the workshop.

Apologies for Jet lag and a sort of nasty family problems which ended up with blood dripping on to an airport floor at midnight. Not mine, my wife's!

My guess to a lesser set of problems is that 'you photo'ed the wrong end' I think( I think) that there is vee slot for a drill. Apologies for ' thinking Down under' but it looks like a variant of my Reliance drill grinder but- only half or less of mine. Mine, it's crap is a miserable copy of the Potts or the Duplex which- are poor copies of the Van Royen.

Today, there are better designs for 4 or 6 facet grinders but it is a question of what floats one's boat. Mine- is a modified Reliance- with added modifications( to improve the crap as I commented) Maybe, I'll fling it at the neighbours cat! Finally, a sensible use-eh?

Herbie, interesting stuff if you like a challenge. Otherwise, put it down to a discovery!

I think that I have Two . One is a Reliance and the other is equally nasty. I played about with them on my Clarkson and realised that there are better things.

Interesting challenge though- bit like sex standing up in a hammock.

It looks like a accessory attachment for a valve grinder, used to grind the end of a valve stem.

Maybe but ALL these things are transferable from one grinding machine to another. I used a key cutting machine to do lathe tools and a valve grinder to do drills and my tools for the Quorn are interchangeable with the ones on the Kennet and the Clarkson and the two drill things(ugh!) go on the Clarkson.
There are more permutations but the conclusion is that working tools for drill grinding are crap.
I went a bit crafty by adding a Vertex dividing headBSO2(?) onto my Clarkson but added a Myford and other collets onto the nose of the Vertex to do drills of all sorts and - it will do valve stems and whatever as well as 'making' drills and so on.

I say this because Professor Chaddock advocated the 4 facet system( and the 6) for drills way back in 1973. It's catching on and is a lot easier and doesn't require centre( Slocombe ) drills to start things.

I merely limped along to sit at the feet of the Guru

Valve grinder is a definite possibility Chiptosser. I bought a box of stuff at auction around 40 years ago from a small mechanics workshop.
