Hello, everyone! I'm new to this forum and am looking forward to communicating with others.
I'm interested in IC engines in general and Diesel engines in particular. I capitalized Mr. Diesel's
name because I greatly admire the man and his work.
I'm interested in building a working miniature two- or four-cylinder diesel engine. I don't know
if anyone else shares the same interest but would like to at least start a conversation.

Welcome, glad to have you.

I have a strong interest in diesel engines, and have been around and operated 453 and 671 Detroit Diesels for a very long time, as well as running two-cylinder Lister diesels.
I have a one-cylinder Lister that was saved from the scrap yard, but have not disassembled it yet to study the parts (photo attached).

I would really like to build a one-cylinder 2-stroke diesel, perhaps a semi-diesel/hot bulb (whatever is the correct terminology), since I think that type of engine would have the highest probability of me being able to successfully build and run it.

I have studied Find Hansen's engines, and would like to make something about twice his typical size.

I can't find the full ytube video for this engine, but the Ellwe style like in this photo/video is what I would like to build.
What a "unit" of an engine this is. (not my video)

There are quite a few diesel threads on this forum.
This forum is somewhat of what I would call "model diesel central station".

Here are a few sections that I have run across, and these would be a starting point for my design, assuming I had time to start this design (not at the moment, but it is on my list).

I don't know the source for these images.

I don't know where I found these photos either (apologies to the owner), but it would appear someone cast and built an Ellwe diesel engine.
Looks like they were posted on the website "Motore Marino "Ellwe" 33 cc, which I can't find a link for.

There are a few threads on here about diesel engines and fuel injection. The search function will bring them up. Here are a couple.

Thanks for my responding to my message! I have very strong interest

Thanks for your response to my message. My interest lies in building a small-scale diesel powered
locomotive, I'll continue to pursue this thread. And thanks for the links as well,

I have quite a strong interest in GM/EMD two-stroke locomotive engines, especially the 567 series.
I would like to build a miniature locomotive using a GM three-cylinder engine.
There have been so-called "live diesel" locomotives in 1/32nd scale, 45mm gauge. I believe these
have been powered by large model airplane engines. I'm wondering if anyone has considered
building something larger using a small diesel engine.
Now, I've never had any hands-on experience with these, just a fascination with the concept.

An interesting challenge with quite a number of points to consider. A few people have built IC powered locomotives with home made spark ignition engines. As you say some gauge 1 locomotives have been built using model carbureted ‘diesels’. I am aware of a diesel hydraulic and a diesel electric by Bob Symes using Taplin twin engines. The diesel electric is shown around 3min 25s into this video:

A few people have build working fuel injected diesel engines with a cylinder size from 10 cc upwards however in (almost?) all cases the builders are happy that they will run and have not moved on to measuring/optimizing power output.

Lloyd-ss on this forum is working on a two stroke supercharged diesel in the style of the GM engines:

https://www.homemodelenginemachinis...diesel-56cc-2-stroke-will-it-ever-work.31110/

If you are thinking about building a locomotive I would suggest first build a four stroke spark ignition engine to a proven design to learn the techniques and then try building a single fuel injection system to get a feel for the tolerances involved.
