I need an arbor that goes from MT2 to 3/4-16, for my rotary table to take my Taig lathe chucks... If anyone knows where to get one (BTW, LittleMachineShop.com is out, and they don't expect to be getting them anytime soon...) or has one to sell, I would be very interested...

Or if anyone would like to give me a cost on making one for me, I'd be interested in that option also...

Thanks,

JH

You can buy an MT blank and single point the thread onto the unhardened blank end on it. The attached picture shows an MT2 blank (along with a centerdrill holder I added to it.)

I don't have a lathe that I can thread with, and was sort of thinking that buying a 3/4-16 die and trying to get it perfect would be almost as much as finding someone who has a lathe that threads and could probably make one out of a blank like that pretty quick and pick up a few bucks... :)

Thanks,

JH

Without knowing your location, there is not much point in people on the other side of the world trying to help.

You might want to think about putting your location in your profile and also in your sig or the text area associated with your (as yet unspecified) avatar. (The latter two options so folks don't have to go digging out your profile to see your location.)

You could also use a scrap drill with a MT2 shank as the basis of your adapter. Fit the taper to your table first and then cut off the excess length of the drill. The remaining length can then be turned down to the major diameter of the thread (3/4-16). Yes, you can do this with HS tooling your lathe. The chuck threads can be cut with a die in a hand held die holder. Make it easier to start the die straight by chamfering the end of the arbor. As for a source for dies, etc., what about local flea markets, tag sales? I don't pay more than a dollar or two for a "good" die, maybe 5 to $10 top for a very good die handle. Lancaster, Pa. is fairly close to the Renningers Flea market in Kutztown and I'm sure there are others..... If you were closer, I'd loan it to you.

Thanks to all for the advice... I think that I will try using a die and seeing how it goes... I'm a bit concerned about getting it threaded perfectly straight, since if I don't, the chuck will be off... but it's worth a try...
