Cutting taper keyway in fly wheel

What Jason Said, (Gib Head Key) All the ones I have seen and worked with on the full sized stationary engines; the key way in the flywheel has the same taper as the key. This is common practice, at least in the US. Dave

Cutting taper keyway in fly wheel

The other option which is what I used on my engine would be to use a standard 3/32" A sized broach and make a special bushing that has the proper angle machined into it. The broaches should be available from most the tool suppliers. Dave

Pacific Vapor Engine from Morrison & Marvin Castings

Hi Everyone Here is the continuation of the intake valve construction. The valve body was removed from the frame using the band saw; I’m sorry I got carried away and didn’t take many machining pictures. It was all pretty straight forward; I decided instead of reaching down through the...

    Milling Table Stepper Motor

One other thing on the file formats; STL files are fine for rapid prototype machines and is usually what the system want to see. But an STL file is probably the worst 3d file of the bunch for 3d surfacing in a CNC mill. An .XT or .STP would be my first choice; some CAM programs will also accept...

    2 cylinder flame licker

Interesting looking design; do the pistons move the valves? It appears that there may be a detent ball but I don't see any linkage to operate the valves. Dave

Pacific Vapor Engine from Morrison & Marvin Castings

Hi Dave We work in the imaging and printing business; it's not a small company I'm sure you have heard of it.;) We have one Interact in the shop and I know not log ago they needed to run a large program on it; I think what they ended up doing to make it work was so set the baud rate down to...

Pacific Vapor Engine from Morrison & Marvin Castings

Thanks Dave! I have been doing the 3 axis work on my mill at work; it is a 22"X16" Fadal and I use Master CAM X5 for programming. I'm lucky that the small shop (R&D Model Shop) that I work in, we all have our own dedicated machines. My work station is right at my machine so it is no problem to...

Pacific Vapor Engine from Morrison & Marvin Castings

Hi everyone I have been struggling trying to get an update posted on the Pacific; I haven’t been able to make much progress lately but hopefully that will change. The next part on the engine is the intake valve assembly; there isn’t anything in the way of plans or a casting for this part. Only...

    Stash of e-buzzcoil kits found

I have built a number of these and they always worked great. The last 3 I did Jerry would only sell me the bare boards and I had to source the components on my own. He had discontinued them because I guess they were more trouble than they were worth. I think the biggest problem was unskilled...

    Oregon GEARS 2013

Jason Sorry to say I didn't do a very good job of taking pictures this year; what I posted on MEM is pretty much all I have. Carl which engines were yours? I'm sorry I didn't stop and say hi; or maybe I did talk to you and didn't know you were on HMEM. Dave
