What are your engines worth to you?

Lee... Half the fun here is listening to my grandsons argue over who will one day own what engine. They've known all their lives that I'm collecting/building for them as much as for me..... (grin) I don't begrudge anyone selling an engine for whatever reason they may deem as sufficient. Much of...

What are your engines worth to you?

Marv Tis a subject that has its own strange dichotomy. From one point of view I agree that it is almost impossible to put a price on an engine you've poured your heart into building. That is the case here and I'm not about to sell any of the engines in my collection, especially those I've built...

Sam That little machine is coming along beautifully. I'm rather envious. Steve

    Kinda jumped the gun!

RC... You stepped on zero toes with your shop thread. You were well within the bounds of forum etiquette. We simply encourage every new poster to give us a bit of a bio information, mostly so we can provide input that is more usable. If we know nothing about you or your location, it's much...

    Humour

A caller to a local talk radio program came up with a foolproof way to end the gulf coast oil leak crisis. He suggested that all they needed was a female's wedding ring. Just slip it over the end of the pipe and it'll immediately stop putting out. Steve

    Minature Lumber

Tin Doll house builders usually work in 12:1 and they have damned near anything you could name in that scale. That is where I get the miniature red clay bricks for some of my engine bases. I even added a perfectly scaled tool box and hand tools to my Minnie traction engine. It's been fun to see...

    Cutting my first gear

Brian I just read through the thread over there and found it pretty typical. There are always naysayers and they tend to be the same group of experts..... every time. I'm glad to know that I too am apparently an idiot, incapable of wiping the drool from my own chin. Now, I've got to go out to...

    Hard aluminum Vs. mild steel?

Lew Staying or leaving is a choice you'll have to make all by yourself. I'm sure you're quite knowledgeable, but the condescending tone is both abrasive and to some extent insulting to those of us who are building at the best of our ability. Take off the starched shirt and tie....get your hands...

Can the port holes on a wobbler be made bigger to aid alignment?

Mike Since I suck at most things math related, I've learned to cheat, sometimes outrageously so. Thje last time i made a "wobbler" I need to find the location of the ports, but couldn't follow the math based formula t6o find the damned things. What I did will probably make poor old Marv Klotz...

    Hard aluminum Vs. mild steel?

Hey Lew.... I've been watching your comments to various threads and I'm curious. Do you now or have you ever worked for Microsoft's tech support? I ask because in each post you've furnished highly technical and excruciatingly correct information which contributes almost nothing to the original...

Tandem Compound Poppet Valve Steam Engine Build, ala Cedge

Thanks Mike.... I was just about to post an apology for the delay in updating this thread. Two weeks back, the Medicos informed me that I am now a type II Diabetic. I've spent the time since adjusting to the new meds and getting the sugar levels balanced out. So far it's been a very easy...

    Snow Tandem Engine

Joe.... No need to go to all that trouble.... if you really want a Victorian sitting on that table, just ship it on down here....LOL Beautiful work!! I've not gotten the touch for working with the brown stuff beyond the odd engine base or so. Glad the tung oil worked out for you. I love the...

    Snow Tandem Engine

Joe... Try Tung oil. I've used it for years for refinishing gun stocks and it is a hard, very durable, fast drying finish that also happens to be self leveling.... ie. no brush marks. It's not picky about how it's applied. I've even rubbed it on with my finger and gotten a nice finish. Much more...

    Hello from Moab, Utah

KVom You managed to get me totally sidetracked....LOL. I took a break from the little engines to do some clean up on my own CJ5 Jeep today. It has been sadly neglected for nearly 3 seasons, so I had pretty low expectations for the finish, when I grabbed the wash bucket. For a cheap $300.00 Macco...

fittings for 1/16" or 3/32" copper tubing

Just got my hands on some very small... .071 inch OD copper, called capillary tubing. Ten feet of it for $8.00 should last me a while. I've also seen 1 mm OD offered on the other side of the pond, but didn't order it. This will be used for oiler lines on engines. Fittings are non-existent so...

Tandem Compound Poppet Valve Steam Engine Build, ala Cedge

Thanks Dean... I find myself sitting and staring at the darned thing and wondering how its going to turn out in the end. The rib is healing pretty well. turns out it was a separation of the cartledge which apparently takes a bit longer to heal then a broken bone. A few more weeks should have me...
