I arrived yesterday after driving 1820 miles in 3 days. The next 7 days I'll be with a group of offroaders driving some of the more radical trails in the canyons around here. Pics to follow maybe. It's nice to be able to follow all the builds from here. I'm homesick for the shop already. :(

Here's a pic of me and my rig from last weekend:

KVOM,

Looks like fun.

Decades ago, I was able to drive the Rubicon Trail out of Lake Tahoe. I have been both directions in a Toyota pickup and road to the river and back on a 4 wheeler.

What a trip.

Kvom,
Have fun and be safe. My daughter has done several of Camp Jeep in Colorado and loved learning how to off road safely and properly.

I will just miss you. I will be passing through Moab in two weeks on the way to the Poison Creek gauge 1 invitational steamup near Park City, UT. I will overnight just north of Moab in Green River. Nice country. It's a group of live steamers who get together every two years to play trains. Come from BC,Canada in the NW to FL in the SE. Been doing it for over 20 years. Photos when I get back. You show me yours and I will show you mine, photos that is.

Looks like a side street in Punxsutawney to me kvom. ;)

Have fun and keep the rubber side down!

My offroading week wasn't the best as my Jeep's alternator quit on me the 2nd day, stranding me up on a ridge about 6 miles from the parking lot. Ended up getting a ride down, then driving the truck over 200 miles r/t to buy 2 batteries (Walmart, only store open on a Sunday night before Memorial Day holiday). Next morning I got a ride back up, replaced the batteries, and was able to drive down. The rest of the week I rode shotgun with a friend; not as fun as driving but still OK.

So my maintenance project on the Jeep will be a new high-output alternator. The 2-battery system will be reworked. Either a single battery or else installing an isolator.

Yesterday the family and I visited Zion National Park. Although it was 90+ degrees, we had a pretty good day making several short hikes. There is a very efficient shuttle bus service inside the park, so no need to drive. Highly recommended. Today we'll likely head back towards Moab for the rest of the week.

Zion is really impressive. I've been all over the West & Southwest, but somehow never made it there until last year. Wow.

You managed to get me totally sidetracked....LOL. I took a break from the little engines to do some clean up on my own CJ5 Jeep today. It has been sadly neglected for nearly 3 seasons, so I had pretty low expectations for the finish, when I grabbed the wash bucket. For a cheap $300.00 Macco paint job it's apparently as tough as nails.

Ready now to drop a few bucks in her and get her going good and strong again. The old 304 V8 still pulls good but the rear differential needs a bit of TLC to make it all right. Probably going to freshen the whole drive train while it's down for repairs.

Back home late this afternoon! :)

After Zion we drove back to Moab and visited Arches NP, then the next day a half day rafting trip on the Colorado River. Friday I left for home, while the girls drove up towards Salt Lake City for their flight home.

On my way, I went through Cortez Colorado, and spent a morning at Mesa Verde NP. This is a World Heritage Site, and well worth the trip. You could easily spend a day or two visiting everything. I just booked the 1 hour tour through the "Balconey House before heading back on the highway.

I might get back to some engine building later in the week, but I'll probably work up the needed Jeep fixes first.
