    I've been looking for a lathe to add to my home 'shop' for a while, and had decided to get one from Harbor Freight, and scavenge tooling over the next few months. After some discussion with my wife about it, she's "talked me into" a Sherline lathe, tooling, and everything I'll need to convert it...

    I've done a lot of tilted head work with Bridgeport mills, and several times in the past few years I've used my Sherline the same way.... most recently as a lathe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6peJqR-vtfU Actually I'll be doing more of that this evening.

    ...but there's no way my wife would have let me have a big lathe in the house. Not all of us have a shop. If it wasn't for Sherline, I'd be making all of my stuff, big OR small, at work. ;D

    Digital calipers going haywire

    Occasionally I'll get coolant on my Mitutoyo calipers, and the display will go nuts until they dry out. It hasn't caused any permanent damage to any of them, I've always worn the jaws out first.

    Ah, I don't even need to play that last one, I've seen it. Actually I've seen it in person, too, a guy at work mistyped a spindle speed command and overcame the chuck clamping pressure. The baseball-sized slug ran around inside the machine long enough for me to look over at him and the rumbling...
