    Calculating stroke

My IC engine. I am at the con rod stage. Well, there are some other bits i could do but i am stuck, so i will start the conrod and hope i become unstuck in time. My bore is 25mm, i have 32mm available between top of piston and top of head. Thats without the skirt poking out. I could probably get...

Drilling bronze valve cages. Not happy

yes he is talking about poppet valves. i dont know what type of bronze, maybe it wasn't even bronze. gunmetal maybe. Any way i have gone thru a good stick of it and after hitting various things with a hammer and swearing, decided to leave valve cages until i find something a little more friendly...

Drilling bronze valve cages. Not happy

Forget drill rod comments, Sunday is a really long work day, 16 hours and I am going to sleep Thankfully 16 hrs in front of people not machines People bite but not as often or badly than machines when tired Wives???

Drilling bronze valve cages. Not happy

Am going to sleep pondering a "d bit" or a "brass grind"! 4 mm boring bar would be the trick, but Size, rigidity??? :) I like the idea of expanding my skills and have recently discovered drill rod. D bit seems at the front. It's a thru hole maybe 20mm, to lazy at present to go out and check Thanks

Drilling bronze valve cages. Not happy

Trying to Make bronze valve cages. I only need two but have only managed one from four attempts. The holes won't stay centered!! . I am drilling on the lathe, have done this in others metals without issue. Is it the bronze? Do I give up? Any tips? Drilling 4mm guide hole and 8mm passage...

Piston clearance in IC engine and other questions

Thanks Have taken all on board Especially the directive to buy micrometer "I told u I need one and this guy says so!!!" I will move on and post pictures if it looks anything like an engine anytime soon Viton O rings in Australia??? Anyone??

Piston clearance in IC engine and other questions

My apologies for the framing of the initial question. Four stroke engine with spark ignition. My concerns are what clearance between piston and cylinder? If the clearance is .1mm, how to measure it? .1 seems to be the resolution of most every tool I have. Must I buy a micrometer? Any...

Piston clearance in IC engine and other questions

Building my first IC engine. 25mm bore and planning on similar Stroke. The AL piston is a VERY good fit, slides freely when dry but compresion with oil. Will I need piston rings? If so, I would like to use I rings. What's clearance will I need? Finally, how will I measure that clearance? I...

    Ic engine design help

I have found some 34mm of rings from lawn mower shop. My plan is to tun up a 34mm pisto, longer than I need it to be, then bore the cylinder to an "almost" fit, hone cylinder till it's a fight fit, then turn down the piston to the correct size. That way I won't have to measure the bore. I don't...

    Ic engine design help

Thank you all for the advice. I will stick with the four stroke. Its more a chance to expand my skills (minimal at present ), than anything else. I can do all the basic stuff but cams and valves would be a nice challenge. I have made a start and will post some pictures. Thanks

    Ic engine design help

Thanks Aluminium head and piston I thought drill rod for valves and whatever I could find for con rod. I have been looking at some engines to get a feel for the dimensions Thanks for the help. I will post some pics

Oh, con rod length? What's optimal I don't plan on running the engine long periods. Just to show it works

    Ic engine design help

Ok, planning on building an ic engine. I have a small amount experience and have made a compressed air engine. And it worked. I am planning on 25mm bore and stroke, cast iron cylinder with AL piston, head and crank. Timing belt and cams up on top. I have no firm plan other than bore and...

    Compressed air engine design basics

This is engine i ended up with. I just started with the bearing i found in a mower and made the rest to fit. Its nothing special but was a lot of fun to make, and by god it worked!! Its got a Bastardized C fellows slave arrangement for the exhaust, but with poppet valves instead of bearings...

Sieg brushless mini lathe overload won't reset!!

So I pulled the cover of, checked the mosfets switches fuses etc. all good. The safety switch is operational but the guard is removed. There seemed to be an issue with the switch, the main on off switch. The safety switch is wired into the main switch, controlling a relay in main switch. That...
