Hi
I have bought this engine and was hoping that you might be able to tell me what this hit miss was designed from. It is machinist made and works quite well.
Thanks
Erik

Better if I attach the pics

Looks like a Maverick Engine that ran in Home Shop or one of the magazines. I don't remember the designer off hand, but I'm sure someone will. This is a gearless engine but still 4 cycle. The "beam" rocks every revolution of the crank, but the "cam" on the end does a partial rotation with each rock. This allows it to clear the exhaust valve step and then hit the stem every other revolution of the engine. The governor is a simple flyweight and engaged a catch to hold the valve open. Nice engines!

That mechanism on the right hand end of the long rocker arm is similar to the "Mavrick" engine designed by Philip Duclos. It is not a hit and miss mechanism, but rather a mechanism to allow the engine to fire every other other stroke, thus being able to run without a cam shaft and camshaft gears. I can not see the picture clearly enough to determine what the mechanism on the left hand is. If it is for a hit and miss there will be a counterweight mechanism that flys out under higher rpm to engage the exhaust valve lockout lever.

Hi
Thanks I have researched it with your help and it is a Maverick engine designed by Philip Duclos. It was featured in the Home Shop Mashinist magazine in Sept 1995.
