Webster Engine Question

I was just asking a question and meant no harm. The more I learn, the more I realize how much is involved in the machining process. Physics, Chemistry, Metallurgy, Math and a lot more. I read about the different cast irons that exist, their properties and chemical structure. It's complex! I suppose that is why I find machinating interesting.

Hey Rob. No harm no foul on any question in this place. That’s why I like it here, seems the only bad question is the one not asked.
And I hear ya on metal grades. The more I read the more I realize how little know. Most everything I’ve machined involved looking in my drawer of mysterious lumps “O” metal and selecting something that looked the right size. “Results may vary” is definitely the rule. AND THE MATH! I keep reverting to Excel to figure some of this out. Now if I could only get tool sharpening down . . . .

Hi guys. Thanks again for your advice. Using the suggestions, information, and it may sound dopey but yes inspiration. I’m ready to start making some chips on my version of the Webster. I’ve got this idea in my head for a water cooled Webster that’s like an itch I can’t scratch.
So if you want to come along for the ride that would be great. I can’t promise it will run but I do promise to take LOTS of pictures.

Hi Bob,
No worry. The Webster Engine is a very forgiving engine to build. If you need help/advice,there are one thousand and one very keen forum members supporting you. I have both Webster and Rupnow Engines under the belt and now about to finish up the Nemett-Lynx Engine. I did have cold feet but some members gave me good encouragement to jump in. For this round, we cut and heat heat the Cast Iron Piston Rings. The art of making C.I.Rings now no longer black magic.

Mechanicboy
That stack pipe on the exhaust sounds great! I might have to use that.
