I bought a Smith's tachometer today from ebay and was wondering what the value of it would be. The guys sold it as a dial indicator and said he didn't know what it was for. I paid $23 for it. Seemed worth it. Important just wondering if anyone knew its value.

Value will be reflected by condition and available rpm ranges. If you have a spindle/shaft that will run to near maximum range apply oil to the oiler and check the instrument to ensure meter operating spindle is true, beware if not will be thrown off the rotating shaft.
On ebay.UK these go for as little as £15.00 which is almost your purchase price. If all is OK I consider you have a good deal for a top quality meter that will measure rpm and surface speed.

Had one of this tachometer with me for ages. Some one from the next dept
came over and borrowed it and never returned it and he had the cheek to deny. Same gentleman had the cheek to come borrowing a Digital Vernier.
Made him sign for it and he took ages to return. Banned for life.

Bought a digital garbage meter which could never match Smith's.

May look out for one in Ebay.

I have one of those, and as a collector of things "old and technical" I wouldn't part with it. But there again, if the price was right........

Ian.
