Hi All
Does anyone apply sealant or corrosion protection to steel plates prior to riveting together or is it normal to just use the final paint finish on the assembled part for this?
My question is regarding angles and plates riveted to horn plates on a traction engine.
Generally I was going just rivet the bare metal parts together for now and paint later (probably years later at my rate), however after a cold winter some of these parts needed to be cleaned up after getting a bit of rust on them which got me questioning myself.
Does anyone have any thoughts on corrosion protection/ build sequence etc.
Thanks
