Very pleased to have the other half of the "essentials for hobby" arrive today.

It is a Optimum BF20L Vario Mill.

With the very limited space I have at the end of the garage it took some planning and a not so quick readjustment to my steel work bench to fit it in.

Now all I have to do is work out what tooling I need to get a start, then of course learn how to use it. The good thing there is that by reading the never ending supply of information on this forum, that should be a breeze. ;D

Looks good.

I like the nice view out the window you have.

If it were me, I would have a shield between the mill and window just in case a part decides to leave the mill before I'm done machining it. ;D

You could use a piece of clear Plexiglas.

Have fun with your new toy.

Regards,

SAM

Be safe and have fun with it.

Very nice, I hope you have many hours of enjoyment. woohoo1

If you have not already, may I suggest you try and find a place for your bench grinder that's not so close to your nice new mill slideways.

Best Regards
Bob

Thanks for the very encouraging remarks.

Paolo, thanks for the tip about the plastic gear/s, a couple of sales agents told me that for a first mill this was not a bad feature because if I stuff up the worst I can do is wreck a plastic gear and not cause more expensive damage to the mill. As for the cost, $1540 including stand and tax. After much looking about and checking the features on this mill I considered it a bargain.

Have taken note of a protective piece of perspex for the window.

Lathe Nut, when can I expect you??

I am now patiently waiting for the tooling to arrive after reading lots of threads on this forum. The list just seemed to go on forever.

Looking for some easy projects to learn from, any suggestions gratefully received. My knowledge base is lower than a snakes belly.

Cheers

Fine looking machine there, Ken. Nice light in the shop, too!

That's where every single last one of us started. Nary an exception. Mind your fingers 'n peepers and have fun!

That is the same mill that I have ordered and am awaiting delivery.

I hope to have fun and learn with this machine and I think that for my usage it will be just fine.

Question though, which plastic gear do I have to be carefull with?

I have the spare parts/manual for this mill in PDF and could someone point me in the right direction for the number of the part (just incase I screw up).

Thanks.

George
