Hi,

Found this site by 'accident' and I am pretty chuffed so far with the infomation content. I am a born again 'machinist' that after 40 odd years behind a desk I felt the urge to retired in my garage surrounded by my machines and tools. Looking forward for some friendly banter, advice and help.

Cheers guys

Welcome, glad to have you.

I like this group a lot.
They share a common interest, and are from all around the world.

Very laid back hobby folks here.

I feel the need to retire to my garage shop too, and the urge gets stronger with each passing year.

Good luck in your endeavors.

Welcome from another Worcestershire resident. 👍
And there I was thinking I was the only one from Redditch in Worcestershire here. Lol, I was only joking. So probably not a million miles away from each other. Keep well Chipmaster .

Two basics for the home workshop are in my experience adequate heating and an additional chair for company that is comfortable enough for your wife/partner.
Those are good things to have, we have both, and my wife often sit and paints in an evening with me in the workshop. So much nicer than being on your own, and safer too if anything 'bad' should ever happen. The only down side is that I have to plan to carry out noisy operations during the day when she is out, so as not to disturb her. We do have some bluetooth ear defenders though which are very useful if I do need to make a noise when she is around, as she can still safely listen to music. They are one of the best Christmas presents we have had from our son.

Bluetooth ear defenders may be OK. I myself mostly rely on very effective custom made motorbike ear defenders. The only downside is that my daughter tends to berate me when I don't react very much in a rowdy family gathering and she finds out I have the protectors in.
