My name is Brandon and I started a new YouTube channel B Machining that covers Model Engineering.

First an introduction: I am a fulltime mechanical engineer by day and a hobby machinist by night and weekends. I have always been interested in mechanical things, math, vintage machinery and vintage engines. I have built a few hot rods in the past and restored several small engines, tractors and one hit and miss engine. These projects always included machining of some kind but recently (3 years ago) I discovered model engineering. This combines everything I enjoy (vintage engines/machinery, machining, math/engineering) so it was the perfect hobby to get into.

I recently decided to start a YouTube channel to share my projects. The logo I came up with is a Venn Diagram with 3 circles: the gear represents model engineering, the flywheel represents vintage engines (both steam and internal combustion) and the 3 jaw chuck represents machining. Most videos cover these topics but occasionally might include tractor and engine show coverage. Since my name is Brandon a lot of people just call me "B" so that is where the B Machining comes from but it has a double meaning of "Be" Machining to encourage others to "Be Machining".

My machines include a Smithy 1220 LTD mill/lathe combo, a 1944 Burke #4 Horizontal Mill, an Altlas 7B Shaper, a 1950's Craftsman drill press and a benchtop hand crank planer. I try to use mainly the Smithy and drill press to make most parts because I realize most people don’t have a fully stocked machine shop.

My first project was the PM Research Dynamo. This was an easy but fun project to start with to figure out how to make and edit videos (which was all new to me). Before I decided to start a YouTube channel my first engine I built was the Farm Boy Hit Miss Engine and then the Upshur Vertical Single Engine. I had several photos and some video of them so I made videos for those. Currently I am working on my first steam engine the PM Research #5 Steam Engine and it is nearing completion. I have several more projects in mind after that so stay tuned and be sure to subscribe to be notified of new videos.
