New guy from Alabama

Hi, I am a new guy from Alabama with questions. Looks like the place to get answers. My only lathe is a 7x10 and I hope to do some upgrades and get a mill. David

Welcome David. The 7 X 10 is a neat machine, especially now that it is hugely supported by thousands of enthusiasts who have made every imaginable mod to it.

Ask questions, but more importantly, turn some metal. Just have some fun at first, see if you can make a 5" shaft that is turned to a chosen diameter, and parallel to within 0.001" or less full length.

Practice facing, parting off, and don't worry if you scrap some stuff!

As you will notice there are a lot of lathes like yours here!
And some darn amazing work is being produced on them.
Lots of mods and gizmos to make for them too!
You can spend a lifetime making tooling for your lathe or just get it dirty and figure out how it works!!

Doy you know where Alexander city is? its about 35 miles from there but not much of a town anymore. Try Google search and it should show up but it aint much anymore :
Now I live in the SE COLD corner of Idaho *bang* AND the snow has started for the long cold winter :redface2: and I hate it *club*
