Hello everyone,

recently i got my lathe working and i decided to work on a small nitro engine project.
This is the first i ever make, so let's hope it works out :)

I had 2 pieces of stock of 42mm and a few of 28mm.
I reduced the diameter to 40mm for the cylinder OD.
Then i made a sleeve to fit inside the cylinder, wich ended up being 16mm.
(I know, it's an aluminium sleeve, should be iron or steel. But it just needs to run a bit, not a long time.)

Then i pressed the 2 together and bored out the sleeve to exactly 16.00mm.

After that i decided to make a small piston. 20mm long (which would make it a 14,5mm stroke) and 15,96mm thickness.

Then i decided to make the most simple head possible (it needs some more work later).
And i thread an m8 thread in it for the glowplug.

and this is soemwhat of the current finished product. I still need to cut the chamber and put holes through it for the head bolts.

This is how i was planning to bore the holes (m4's).
Printing out the plans and glue them on.

This is how far i am currently, i will post updates later. Any tips welcome :)

I'm no expert on nitro engines, but I don't see any intake or exhaust ports in your cylinder, which you will need at some point. I would also suggest you don't run an aluminium piston in an aluminium bore as the similar metals will gall easily/quickly.

Are you working from a plan set for this engine or designing it yourself? If you're designing it yourself I can tell you it's far easier to work from a proven plan at first, so you know the design is sound.

Just to let you know, glow plugs(standard) are a 1/4" x 32 thread.
Yeah i found an 8mm plug here in the local model engine shop. :D

Cheers

I'm making it all myself, yeah i'm planning on building those later.
It should be doable :)
