I was digging in the back corner of the basement looking for something,
I can't remember what because I got distracted. (AGAIN)

I found these old childhood relics.
More old model engine toys.

If you are as old as me you might remember spinning circles in the back
yard until you fell over...

The engines are seized on both of them.
As if I needed more projects. :wall:

Now I'm regretting finding those old airplanes.

From the time I was 5 years old I was fascinated with scale model
engines. In 1969 I BEGGED my Grandparents to get me a Cox nitro
fueled dune buggy for Christmas. Of course they did.
It's gone now, but an eBay search turned one up with a Buy it Now
price of $200

It's the early obsession of model engines coming back to haunt me. :-\

Rick,

Awesome.....had the "Sandblaster" myself....my brother had the dunebuggy.

They lasted longer than the U-control P51's :big:

I still have the dragster up in the attic of the shop. I don't think I had it running but once or twice in the last 35 years. It does have a replacement body in the box, the original body melted in a fire. ::) . The idea was to use a long string as a guide and a knot at the end of the string was to trip a lever to deploy a drag chute. -Mike

Had the Funny cars too....brother had the dragster.....gave them away to the neighbors kids.....don't know what happened after that....still ran great

The demise of my Cox Dune Buggy was learning experience for me.
I never knew that nitro fuel burned without a visible until the engine
died one day and I tried to pick the car up.

With a blistered right hand I stood back and watched it melt into the grass.

I should have painted the following war logo on the nose of my P51

" Lawn Dart".....with a pin up girl to boot..

spent most of my time gluing it back together......

Do kids still play with control line airplanes?

I sure had a lot of fun with mine, though eventually went on to R/C.

We got one of those crazy R/C helicopters for $30 for one of the kids at Christmas. It's just amazing how far the technology has come to produce something like that.

Best,

BW

Technology has removed the craftsmanship requirement from toys as well.
I can remember building airplanes from thin balsa wood stringers and tissue
paper. They would take weeks to build but usually flew great.
Once in awhile I'd smack one into a tree and break the propeller.

No problem, just start a new one.

I might finish that one someday......

I was into R/C back in my high school days. I have a complete plane (Cox .049 engine) that has never flown. I also have a Tamia King Tiger (had transmission problems, how's that for realistic?) and a car/jeep thing called the XR311. There are a couple of 1/4 scale trainers in various stages of completion in the basement gathering dust. I might have the time to get back into it once I'm retired.

The R/C Tiger prompted me to start the 40% scale Tiger that I never finished. That, too is waiting for me to get back to it. Too many hobby projects, not enough time!
