Hi All. Haven't posted for a while as I have engaged in other fields. I was doing someone a favour and had just, luckily, finished machining a dovetail when my 20yr old MD30 m/c decided enough was enough. The noise as the, I am assuming, the bottom bearing broke up sent my blood cold.

What I need now is a guide to the right way to strip the quill out to replace the bearings. Can anyone help. I do have the manual that came with the m/c but although it has a suitable drawing of how it all fits together it is of no use for taking it apart.

cheers

What is an m/c?

If you have an assembly drawing you are in good shape. Basically take the obvious path to disassembly.

Beyond that there is a lot of similarity between different quill / spindle assemblies. Most likely you will want to remove the whole quill assembly. Once out you should be able to visually inspect to find the right starting point for spindle disassembly.

Sorry i cant be more specific. It has been ages since i was rebuilding spindles regularly. Further not familiar with this mill.

...What is an m/c?...
It is the common abbreviation for 'machine' from my years in engineering.

It's a case of misplaced finger as an MD30 is a Rong Fu mill/drill, commonly contracted to m/d.

I suspect that as soon as Ray starts to disassemble it the reassembly will be obvious. These aren't terribly complicated machines.
