Regarding the brake, I have a similar 1330 lathe which I power via a VFD, I have fitted an electro-mechanical clutch into the drive train immediately after the output from the motor which is disabled as soon as the brake pedal is activated. The motor is thus allowed to run down in a controlled manner according to the VFD programming whilst allowing the braking to be fully effective in bringing the spindle to an immediate stop via the mechanical braking system

Thanks. That certainly keeps the VFD from fighting the motor while braking. I used the brake switch to remove the enable input to the VFD when I brake. That puts the VFD in a coast to stop state and that's working slick.
