Ic engine castings

What do you have under the bench.
Looking to buy untouched ic engine casting sets to add to my collection. Have a large number of complete casting sets so only really interested in obsolete or genuine old sets.
Good money for the right sets.

Are you only interested in obsolete or old designs? Does that mean you would not be interested in a 1/4 scale W, or Y, or six cylinder Anzani casting set? Or are you looking for simple single cylinder engines to build?

I also provide sheltered housing for Orphaned model engine casting sets but I am also willing to provide a caring loving home for those that have been pre-loved (started).

Kirt at Hemmingway has the patterns for the Aeronca that Joe made the other year ( I have castings :thumbup

CIS not sure if my supplier has another set I may have brought the last... he won't have two sets that he is willing to sell one person.

BR2 castings are available from Doug Hewson.

I need a flywheel for my Wall Wizard set of castings. :wall:


Most of those Westbury engine castings are still available from Kirt (many not advertised). Not sure what you mean by the "Crossman". Are you getting confused with his Craftsman twin? Or the cherub Twin? Both sets of castings are happily housed in warm dry boxes in my library, along with a set for Ladybird

Gypsy Major: again Joe did some patterns which are now with Kirt. (The castings that came from them are also nice).

The Southworth Twin Tandem Corliss is still available from Bob Potter. I hope you have a lot of space its a huge engine! I have the cross compound Corliss with the air pump.

Copies of collectable/rare single cylinder aero engines castings from WW2 time maybe easier to find.

That list is what I have. I've never dealt with hemingway.

I do mean the craftsman twin. (Been a long day).

I met Bob potter few months back when I collected my castings. Great quality. Over 50kg of castings. Double flywheel. They are sat in a box in bedroom as i can't physically lift them into loft.It will be a beautiful engine. I'm tempted to buy the single as well.

Have you thought about making them without castings, there are quite a few that can be carved from solid or fabricated. I have just been making a Stuart Turner Lightweight this way.

And the small aero engines are easy enough to carve out like this Italian pair

Well Robbie my casting supplier says you will have to identify what engines you would like to build as he will not let out lists of what he has available. He considers that, taking into account their rarity, they should go to people who want to build one of the specific engines rather than selling them to people who want them for hording sake.

Hi Jo I'm not hording these casting sets. I have all intentions of building them all. I do have age on my side as I'm only 36.
I have already built a couple of bar stock engines. Edwards radial and just completing the howell v4.

Has anyone ever done drawings and casting for some of the classic motor bike engines like the Manx Norton, 7R AJS etc ?

I know various people have built them as one off's but did they ever become commercial items ?

I don't think so John, would have thought it was possible to lay your hands on original drawings or an engine to measure, as they are usually done to about 1/3rd scale you should not have to make too many compromises to size.

Not that I am aware but I have considered doing a scaled down version of one of my bike engines myself.

Some of the casting sets, like those Anzani's I mentioned are by invitation only, the original designer not wanting the hassle of selling the things commercially. The other option is like what Joe did: He made the patterns for himself, did a few sets for his mates :thumbup: then decided it was too much hassle and passed them on to someone else to make available.

The problem is Kirt has too many engine patterns now and I am not sure when or if they will be seen commercially.

Funny! I thought the same thing when I saw that list. First thing that went through my head was "He better get started today"

I think the guys are right you need to turn the question on its head: What have you made so far from castings and how long did it take you? And how long do you think that lot is going to take to make? Based on your age you may wish to consider the possibility of getting side tracked from making swarf by girl friends or starting a family :thumbup:.

Thanks for the comments guy. I already have a family, partner and two kids. Work full time plus overtime. I do have one advantage. I can squeeze a few hours a week in work. Finished an edwards radial and near completion of howell v4.
