I need help identifying the model of my southbend 9" lathe. There is no model number to be found, but a serial number cast into the bed is 52636S.

It has a v belt head which seems uncommon, the bed is 42" making it @ 24" between chuck and tailstock.
I was going to part it out,but after cleaning years of crud off it, it seems in too good shape for that. I might try to sell it nefore parting it out, but would help to know the model.

My first lathe was a second-hand SB 9" model B bench lathe. I'm now running a Myford Super 7 but regret not keeping the SB.
Imho, desireability is basically meaningless since each model was intended for a range of purposes. Btw. the Vee belt drive was standard on the 9" Precision and Light Ten Precision Bench Lathes.

Hi, I have 2 SB lathes. The serial #'s are stamped into the bed at the far right by the v-way of the carriage The number you took a pic of is a casting #. Grizzley tools owns the data base of SB #'s and will send you a copy of the file card of the machine for $25.

Serial number is usually stamped into the top of the ways down by the tailstock. I think that number cast into it is something else.
