HI all my lathe is a compact 8 and the way the Chuck's are held on it is by 3 m8 studs
my idea is for a driving dog it will basically be a circle with adjustable points on it smiler to the ones on a fixed steady but it will have three mounting holes the same as the chuck and you will have different length flanged fixing studs dues this sound lick a good idea ?

Yes, and no.

It would be very useful and could accomodate lots of different size and shape material, but wouldn't want to have a tool dig in to a work piece. From the description it sounds like things might come out of it as easily as things go in it.

I wasn't concerned with damage to the machine part of this project. I had softer, more fleshy things in mind. Stuff that you can't just hammer back into shape with a hammer.

:)

HI all did not think i wood get crap of people in this room i have shed before my spelling is CRAP it may have to do with the fact that having a BUS knocking you of your motorcycle and having ones Head smashed in IM a tool maker by trade i started this Hobey to help me start and rebuild my life

Krv,

Take no notice, not all of us are people who can't see when a person has a problem. As long as most of us can understand you, that is all that matters, and you will get all the help you need, if at all possible.

Just ignore the piss takers for what they really are, and carry on as you have been doing.

As Bogs said take no notice of them people, they are the losers, I've spent my life struggling to spell and from experience the smart arses who delight in pointing our your mistakes are not worth a second thought.

Don't let them win keep your posts comming.

Yeah, that'll do it :( Doesn't seem to have affected your manual skills too badly - you're still doing some fabulous work :)

I confess to being one of those who was puzzled about your writing - I thought it was too accomplished to be someone with dyslexia, and had even wondered at one point if you were a teenager, just being 'a teenager' (i.e. awkward). - Sorry.

Anyway, getting back on topic: your idea

Have you seen this one from Frank Ford?

Hey fair enough, and I'm sorry if it came across as I was making fun of you.
:hDe:

Like BillTodd said - it's easy to mistake it for the way a teenager types.
These days it seems to be "cool" to deliberately mis-spell words and never check your text before submitting it.

I was by no means taking the piss, mocking you or anything like that.
However, others here were pretty quick to start throwing insults around.

Thank you for apologising. The written word is very easy to be misinterpreted.

Now you've gone and put people offside again. ::)

Please.................Relax, this is a hobby.

Best Regards
Bob

HI all sos for being so defensive I must apologise if i have ofended any one bob ;D

Bob,

if your drive dog is going to be used to turn items between off-set centres (i.e. tapers) , it'll need to have some flexibility - like a universal joint - or it will 'walk' it way off the part.

So, how about making it with one fixed ring, mounted to the spindle, with another ring hinged to it (in some way - ball joints?) that carries the drive screws?
