I wanted to post and introduce myself. My name is Chris (Akkord64), and I am new to this hobby. I am trying it out to see if this is something I can *waste* my free time on. I am a network security engineer by day, but have always been interested in the mechanical aspects of all things. I am fortunate enough to have a full machine shop at my disposal, and will be trying to learn the equipment and techniques in the near future. So thanks in advance for letting me learn from all your trials and tribulations in the historical posts, and in all of my future queries.

Welcome Chris, with a full machine shop at your disposal, it looks like you are well on the way to wasting lots and lots of free time (and time that was not previously free). Have you decided what to build first?

Jim

Welcome Chris. This is a very addictive hobby. It will gobble up all your free time and more. ;)

Thanks for the warm welcome. Yes I picked out a first project, I am going to try the Scotch Yoke in the downloads section. It doesn't look like anyone else has tried it off the plans, so I may be the first...err second to build this one!

I will definitely be posting progress once I dive into it.

A warm welcome to Chris. This hobby is very relaxing and highly addictive and cheap if you make it cheap.
Like you I had a full complement of machine tools from Two Leblond Precion Engine Lathes,Bridgeport Mill,Okamoto Surface Grinder,China 100 ton Press and Shaper and Vertical Slotter at my disposal.Too bad I had no time.By KnockOff time I am half dead at my desk. My regret till this days.

Bought a Japanese Mini Lathe and Vertical mill etc 8 years ago and today I am very badly addicted. And from simple oscillating engines to slide valve engines and now on to Glow Plug Engine. Could not resist building this engine. My wife thinks I am crazy but she loves to have me around the house. But she also wants the fresh fish that I hooked.
So weekend fishing with her blessing to runaway from the workshop.

We love to see your postings.

Gus from faraway Singapore.
