Hello,
Found this great forum while researching the Cole's large horizontal hit & miss kit that I'm considering. Been interested in model engines for some time and finally decided one would be a good project to play with between regular stuff in the shop.
I work in a machine shop, have one at home too, and completed my apprenticeship at Newport News Shipbuilding.
My usual hobby/projects are 48-53 GM trucks and primarily Detroit Diesel 53 series engines, I like to combine the two.
Here's a picture of the 48 Chevy with a 4-53T Detroit and a Roadranger 10 speed, obviously still in progress.
Most recently I picked up an 8V53T to play with, a reasonably rare engine.

In the past I played with hit and miss engines and still have a number of them. In high school I competed in VICA for small engines (lawn mowers and stuff) and did quite well, 4th in the nation one year, however I must say I can't stand working on those things any more, the old engines are so much more fun.
So model engines may be new to me and I'm sure I have a whole lot to learn, but at least I'm a little bit familiar with machine shop stuff and normal size engines.
