hello,

I found this site a few months back and I am amazed with the wealth of knowledge and techniques everyone has offered on this site. I am a tugboat captain by trade and had no machining experience but was always fascinated with engines of all sorts. So I got myself a mini-lathe and started off, and I found I really enjoy the machining process. I built the ez engine that was in the download section of the site and today I am starting Jerry Howels sideshaft vacuum engine.

Hi Dan,
Welcome to the forum. Nice work on the engine and flywheel.

If you ever need a blivet of cast iron or bronze, let me know and I'll trade you for a ride on your tugboat. :D

Hi Dan, welcome to the group. Nice job on your 1st engine. Looks like you have a good start on the sideshaft. Keep us posted. What part of NY are you from. I live in Putnam county.

Hi Dan and welcome from Downunder. We do love lots of pics so please keep em coming

Hello Dan great to have you on-board, I worked on a tug for a while but it was steam and I was in the engine room.
Stew.

Welcome Dan, also from the warm side of the world.

Jim

thanks for the kind responses everyone

Craig I live on long island in suffolk county. I made some progress on the engine today just some small odds and ends, tomorrow i will start the cylinder so hopefully that goes well. I will put up a post in the build log section when i get some more done.

Stew that must have been a good experience working on an old steamer, Ive never seen a steam tug in person just in magazines and pics. Even though I would love to run a steam tug when that mississippi river is high water I think ill keep my diesels. lol However they do still have a working riverboat in New Orleans the M/V Neches it is always running.

Thanks again for the replies
Dan
