Machining is simple.
You just dial in to a line on the knob or indicator and everything should be perfect.
Or Not! :-\

So how do people like Dan Menendez take something much more complicated and
make it look easy? scratch.gif

I have a feeling Dan would be capable of operating 3 machines at once! :D

Yes, I can see he's juggling but is he really playing? The "timing" maybe. With these modern sequencers even professional musicians pre record the music and then the playback is just "juggling" the keys.

Yet another 'Viral' video. I showed my partner this, (She is a pianist), and She pointed out that the Balls are not hitting the correct Keys for the notes that are heard.

Murray.

That one might not be on the up-and-up but I'm sure this one is. I first saw it quite a few years ago. I'm not a piano player but it sure looks real.

Apparently there is some debate whether or not this is "real" there are also vid clips of this guy on TV with J Leno and Helen. there is a comment that the piano is programed to play the right not no mater where the ball hits . interesting at any rate.

THIS is Dan's personal web page.
Fake or not, it has impressed me.

I also know a few things about a keyboard.
In my garage band days, I played keyboards when my guitar wasn't needed in a
rift.

As with machining, I wouldn't call myself an expert in the field.

The "experts" have the capability of telling everyone why it's wrong or can't be done.
The people who actually do it, just DO IT.

rick: you are right. the skeptics over the centuries have always cried foul or it is a "trick" how ever Dan has developed his act is his business. I have not developed the skills to juggle like that. And have not built any of my own musical instruments. The only traveling entertaining I do is with my model engines and I do not get paid for that. How ever he does it it is amazing. folks often try to over explain or discount what they do not understand . Kind of like the He did that with CNC it is not "real machining" comments that get slung.
Sometimes it is best to just enjoy the results and not worry about the process. it is entertainment for FUN.

I would imagine that if the people in question can "really" do it, they could easily hit the keys on a regular piano, with say a ball bearing. I am not saying juggle the ball bearings, just throw them down and hit the right keys and play a tune. I didn't see a key deflect in the vids. Wouldn't the deflection make the bounce (if any) unpredictable unless you were hitting a stable plane?

I know nothing about juggling or electronic keyboards. Just my 2 cents worth.

from what I gather this is a special keyboard the keys do not deflect.
Like I said amazing results whatever his methods.

If he could do it on a mechanical keyboard, I'd be suitably impressed.

Electronic keyboard--I'm calling Fake with a capital 'F'. I'll bet it's programmed and any key press will produce the correct next note. That means he has to provide only the proper rhythm with the balls. I'm guessing that that is not easy to do and requires skill and practice but, still, it's not "playing" the tune with the balls.

I have never failed to be amazed at what some individuals are capable of achieving, but these people seem to be so very accurate that I suspect there is some level of electronic assistance. If such level of accuracy can be gained, why is it that Darts players can't hit treble twenty every time and make real money. Another thing that worries me is that the ball seems to only hit one key and produce one note, given the size of the ball this seems strange. Having said that I am no musician and probably could not tell the difference between a single note and a chord.
I think though we should not get hung up on the tunes but be amazed at the juggling skill.
