I have spent many happy hours reading the wealth of information and humour in these pages and thought I should join up.

In my day job I work for a plastic fabricators, doing the drafting, programming the CNC router and doing a bit of turning. Plastic is a fascinating material and we tend to specialise in larger items with fabrications up to 4 tonnes.

My interest in engines centres around small steam engines, say with a bore of 1/2" or less. I have made one working engine so far and am working on the second now. All the work is carried out on a Sieg C3 and a drill press. The C3 is modified for milling and does well at the scale of interest to me.

Photography is my other hobby so should be able to provide some illustrations in due course!

Welcome Jan, happy you liked what you saw here and decided to join in. In your looking around you already know that pictures are most welcomed, so your other hobby should play into that quite well :) Enjoy your time here and jump right in. BTW, would love to see one of those large fabrications you mentioned too!!!

Regards,
Bill

Welcome Jan! Looking forward to seeing some of your work.

greetings and welcome . Plastics especially of the Lucite and corian PMMA varieties are very usable model material. .
I have made a few engines of these materials . so if you have scrap privileges you should be set.
Here are a couple pics to inspire you. Now lets see what you can do. ( a friendly challenge) LOL

Thanks for the welcome everybody.

Bill, I am on holiday this week and only have a few pictures at home but here is a sample of smaller items. The cylinder is 3m diameter and 3m tall with a wall thickness of 25mm. The item on a stand is a vacuum filter that is 3.6m tall.

Welcome to the fun Jan!!! ;D

That cylinder is HUGE!!!! th_confused0052
I would take a guess that yhe thing at the bottom of the cylinder is joining the sheets of plastic together?
Kind of like a giant heat sealer!

Looking forward to seeing some of your work!!

Andrew
