Farm Boy Progress

My digital camera broke and I haven't been able to take progress pictures until today; my tax refund came and I was bale to purchase a new camera.

Since my last post to the "First Farm Boy Parts" thread, I've made many more parts and started to dry fit everything... The hardware I used is only temporary until I make proper scale model hex head screws.

John you're doing a great job on that Farm Boy. I'm building the same one and I am just finishing the gears and the cam. My material for the cam shaft and the crank bearings just came UPS tonight from Speedy Medals. Spring time is ruff out on the farm. I have a garden to fence in , rototill ,Plant and lots of firewood to cut and haul in. It may take me a couple of weeks to move on. I borrowed the cutters for the gears and before I return them I want to try them out to see if I have to cut more off them. Good luck with the rest of your engine keep us posted. Boot.

Great engine and very well done. Please advise source of FarmBoy Engine Plans. Would love to have a set to study. Would be a great engine to build for next year.Meanwhile I am about to get started on the Nemett-Lynx Engine. Paul Swifty jumped the gun and so I will the second guy to work on same engine.

Hi John,
Did you DIY the Drop Lubricator for the main bearings. Look great. Can't buy this any more in Singapore. Was using them while work in Metal Box,UK on the Can Body Makers. That was way back in 1965.

Yes. The final engine has all DIY parts except for some hidden hardware, all 2-56 hardware, a small ball bearing as the cam follower, the ignition coil, battery and a cigarette lighter spring used as a governor backlash eliminator. The cylinder and wrist pin drip lubricator you see is included in JE Howell's plans, although his plans called for solid Perspex/plexiglass rod bored and internally polished - I just used plexiglass tubing for the coil reservoir.

Howell's plans are first rate. A few very minor missing dimensions and very few errors. I translated the plans into a 3D model in Alibre prior to the build, so I found all of these before I made chips.

The Philips head screws and Allen cap screws you see in the early pictures have been replaced with shop made model hex head screws.
