I keep too many drills around, but almost all of them in indexes. When I plan on drilling a bunch of holes all in one size I try and get a number of replacements (as when drilling 1/16" holes for rivets) - this tends to be an effective preventative to breaking a drill. About the only time I break drills is when I've only got a small number of them left (#43 seems to be favorite - on one weekend I broke the jobber length, the taper length, the screw machine size and was only saved by the carbide set. I think I bought a dozen of each when I replaced them and can't recall breaking any since).
I think the only drills I don't have duplicated are the metric ones, they just don't get that much use in my shop.
(It appears to be about 4700 miles to their nearest branch - which I am guessing is in Aberdeen, Scotland).
