Sorry for being away for a while.
Just clearing up a few items.
Yes these projects are not easy , straightforward, cheap , or even possibly at my current level of engineering or any of my levels.....
I am a 56 year old dad , 6' 1" survived Lukemia in 2007(which the hospital had given up on me , but I am a bit thick.... ;-) ).
I am starting a cnc programming course in January.
I will learn Freecad by some means , yet to be determined..... refer to being a bit thick.
Time is short currently due to work commitments , life , family bloody silly season etc.
Chap selling me the cnc lathe and mill , Boxford I think is mad busy so I will probably have to wait until after the silly season is over in a few weeks.
I can purchase the closed loop steppers and ancillaries from Germany as the UK is off limits due to bloody tarriffs.
Also starting a new business so just a little on me plate.
Guess what , why the hell not.
Better to burn out than fade away..... yes also trying to buy a nearly finished Bobber bike so I can look cool.
Life is for living boys and girls, lads and lassies.
I have perused the many auction sites of all sorts ye have in the US and my god ye have it easy even if it means just a little work.
Give it a go , what ever it bloody is, yes I am going to make lots of mistakes but so what , I am a welder so I can hide them......
I am a big boy , I can take it.
Also have a friend who wants me to do a youtube build progress channel.....I have a face for radio.......
The wife says we are still in love and young , who am I to argue with someone smarter and prettier.
Propforward has offered me some great deals and lots of advice and help so ye, lets do it.
I am based in Ireland and its impossible to get any help here and even if I want to purchase a 2 ft square of 1mm brass....yes both measurements , then I have to buy a full 8 ft by 4 ft bloody sheet.
Customs stops everything and puts their made-up charges on anything they stop.
Hopefully I will learn from my mistakes , this time but these are things I have put off for years due to raising a family , being unwell , other family issues etc etc but now is my time.
I am sure there are many people upon here who will assist even in the simplest of ways by just saying "give it a go" " you might be special but I am among special friends....." actually a lot of people I know say I am special..... ;-)
I was on a secondary school board for years , I thought kids and adult basketball and ran a large club here in Athy for years.
I do a bit of whits water kayaking and yoga , I stay at the back coz I am *****.....;-)
I might even try and build a 5 cylinder radial..... who knows.....
Life is for living NOW......

What's a Bobber bike in English? (Real English from America). And, I'm SURE you don't need to LOOK kool, as anyone with your ambitions is already cool.

P.S. On the way to the Christmas market in Kilkenny.
Me shop fotos.....
Cannot source either a replacement chuck for the Emco or tailstop which is my first rebuild attempt.
Myford and Mill I fitted the DROs too.
The Attic "Shop" has the retro refit electronics I watched a lot of youtube to figure out how to rebuild.
Shout out to Martys CNC on youtube.

Slightly different set up but similar......

Let us know when you start that 5cylinder. I want to follow that.

The Emco chucks do come up for sale occasionally but fetch a premium.

As you have the Myford you are probably not going to be changine chucks that often on teh CNC so there are some aftermarket backplate sthat allow more standard chucks to be used though they are a bit slower to change a syou first need to remove the chuck from th ebackplate an dthen have access to the three screws to remove the backplate from the spindle. A collet Chuck could also be fitted to the same backplate.

Must be a chuck with though fixing

https://www.rcm-machines.com/fr/man...rs-a-serrage-concentriquetos-80-mm/rciug803m2

There is a Guy on MEM forum who has a couple of the same Conpact5 machines (ex prison workshop) that he has fitted updated control and hardware to and does some very good work with them.

If you want to machine your own backplate for the Emco 5 here is a drawing.
The front fixing chuck makes it much easier to change if you also use a collet chuck,
also useful to move the job to the milling machine for 2nd ops without removing the part.
