Another important milestone achieved and more confidence that the engine will start running.

The 1st cylinder has compression.

1st video: crankshaft rotates properly when a valve is held open.

2nd video: piston springs back as a result of the compression with closed valves.

3rd video: clear pop can be heard when the piston is held in compression and a valve is opened.

N.B. the pushrods are not included for this test and the 2nd cylinder is not included in this story because it is still open, i.e. it does not build up compression because a breather hole in the cylinder head is still open.

Where do you purchase the silver solder Xander? I buy mine at HBM but I wonder if there are other suppliers.

Jos,

I bought my last (was also my first :D) batch of silver solder at Bengs-modellbau. I bought the 0.5 and 1 mm thickness which are fine for small parts and details. For soldering these 3 mm plates, it would be better to use 1.5 mm to get some more volume in the fillet. For now I use two lengths of 1 mm that I place in the corner which gives the same result.

Testing with some cold blueing chemicals to stain the steel, brass and pewter crankcase covers. Soft solder joints do no get very dark, silver brazed joint turn dark.
