You're gonna miss it!

Probably the Aloris AXA tool post will be too big for a 8x lathe as you will have trouble adjusting down to the center line.

If does not work I will post here.

My wife want to down size my lathe to something lighter because of health condition.

Now selling my South Bend weight 780 pounds on Craigslist and replacing with a Venco 8x15 shipping weight 180 pounds.
VEVOR 8x16 Luxury Version Metal Lathe 750W Precision Bench Top Mini Metal Milling Lathe Variable Speed 50-2500 RPM Nylon Gear (8x16 inch) | VEVOR US
It will be change I have the lathe for 20 years and fully tooled too.

I am keeping my Aloris tool post.

Dave

Photo below of good old friend.
Your old lathe looks like a pretty nice and clean older lathe. I have a 16” micro cut and was thinking of getting a smaller one to use for smaller projects. What size is your South Bend?

I’m very new to this forum so if I’m out of line feel free to correct me. I think you are in CA so shipping may be costly for me. Do you have an idea what it is worth? I know you said you were going to try and sell on Craigslist which would target local buyers and may be way less hassle for you. If you would rather not share it on the forum or if you want to respond to me on messenger that’s fine too.

Shipping is very costly today.
If FedEx the item to cost goes way up most will go pickup what purchased.

If live close a moving company will do. There limit is 750 pounds. Witch lathe is 700 pounds.

I must be missing something. Your wife wants you to downsize your lathe for health reasons? You only need to turn wheels to operate the lathe. It is hard to see how this would be a health problem.

I’m 75 & I need to downsize a lot of things so ”She Who Must Be Obeyed” won’t be stuck with a lot of my stuff when I “buy the farm”
not Gonna sell my SB 9 though.
YMMV

Now I understand. I too am 75 and I recently sold my nice, but heavy, Walker-Turner drill press and my Delta Toolmaker Surface grinder. The grinder was a difficult item to sell as it had to be completely disassembled to get it out of my basement and surface grinders are not to common in home machine shops.

It is 700 pounds and she afraid that she get stuck with it. If something happens to me.
I have a little stage 4 colan cancer since 2009. I am also on chemotherapy.

I’m halfway across the country in eastern MO, about 2000 miles give or take. It would half to be crated and truck freight LTL. Probably easier for you to sell local.

I was diagnosed in 2009 with stage 4 colan cancer.
I have has chemotherapy, surgery and radiation treatmen.
I did ask my Doctor this year how long do live with stage 4. She replied [ no lives pass 10 years]. Last my doctor said [your in good health and in your 80's chemotherapy does work that well]
Good new almost in most in my 70's. The bad news is my other doctor said your old 🧓.

Better not to try and determine "life expectancy" of people. My mother's heart specialist told her (at 81) that if she had a quadruple heart by-pass op she could live 5 to 10 years more.... but without it she would not last much longer than 1 year, at best. She didn't have the op as she would have to give-up driving, and her whole social life revolved around flexible transport - living in the country. A few months or year of "continued life" was a better choice for her than 10 years in isolation with no chance of continuing her social life. So she chose not to have the heart by-pass. And kept driving for about 10 years....!
At 101 she has now beaten the specialist forecast of "1 year" by 20 times....

Sadly, others have had the opposite, result. But life is unpredictable. Live for today, plan for tomorrow, keep plans flexible, because none of us can predict how many tomorrow's we will enjoy.
Keep on enjoying your life and your wife, Dave.
